Principal Mechanical Engineer, R&D

Locus Robotics is a leader in the rapidly growing eCommerce order fulfillment optimization space. Our solution helps warehouse owners attain 2-3X efficiency improvement over cart-picking operations, by empowering pickers to work collaboratively with our robots. All this is accomplished while integrating with the operator’s Warehouse Management System, utilizing, and optimizing existing facility infrastructure.

The Principal Mechanical Engineer will work our of our Advanced Products Group, supporting new product and accessory development as part of a small cross-collaborative team. This is a hybrid role with remote work flexibility but will require engineers to be onsite in our Nashua NH office for team interface and at critical development points. The Principal Mechanical Engineer must be well rounded in technical ability, capable of both design for prototype through rapid development and mid-high volume product designs of our next generation of high performance and intelligent robotic systems.

Job Description

  • Develop innovative and creative solutions to non-trivial problems, launching new products through to production.
  • Design, develop and validate complex systems that integrate content and constraints from several engineering disciplines.
  • Pursue the rapid creation and transfer of knowledge to drive technical progress and efficient decision making.
  • Design of electro-mechanical actuators and sensors.
  • Interpret open-ended project requirements and distill into pragmatic sets of specifications for complex new designs.
  • Excited to teach others to grow both inside and outside of their technical discipline.
  • Working with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • BS+ in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years demonstrated success delivering complex electromechanical systems including industrial automation equipment, robots or similar systems that combine actuation systems, motion control, custom sensor integration, electronics, or similar content.
  • Mastery of Solidworks 3D CAD systems and experience negotiating version control with multiple contributors on large assemblies.
  • Well-versed in technical drawings and tolerancing for all manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to apply good GD&T practices when appropriate.
  • Strong mechanism design using belt drive, lead screw, linear motion, linkages, etc.
  • Strong background in selecting BLDC and stepper motors, sensors, and other electro-mechanical components.
